What is Cold Porcelain?

Cold Porcelain is a type of air dry clay. Contrary to it's name it is not like traditional porcelain. It is a modelling material which once dried retains flexibility. I primarily use the brand  Mama Dora from Argentina in my bridal work as it offers good flexibility and durability. Cold Porcelain is a non edible yet non toxic material.

All clay starts off slightly translucent so I colour it with white oil paint to eliminate that unless I want slight translucency for some flowers. I can do almost any colour flower as long as it comes in the colour of oil paint you require. I also tone and shade my flowers with soft pastels. I use a fixative to set the colour.

Cold Porcelain is a long lasting material and the flowers have excellent longevity as long as they are cared for correctly. Please be aware Cold Porcelain flowers are heavier than fresh or silk flowers. Each petal is crafted by hand and large flowers require a considerable amount. The larger the flower the heavier. Please also be aware Cold Porcelain is not waterproof, so if using for a bridal bouquets please cover it if it's raining.

Care instructions.

Cold Porcelain flowers do not require much care there are however a few things you can do. If they get dusty, do not wash them, use a fluffy makeup brush to wipe away any dust. Also they are best kept outside of damp environments, so places like bathroom which are frequently damp are not the best locations. They are best kept somewhere out of direct sunlight. Sunlight doesn't damage the Cold Porcelain but over time it can affect the pigment in the oil paint and pastels. The only other thing to be aware of is Cold Porcelain clay can be affected by temperature, so in cold temperatures they may be less flexible and yet in the summer may be more flexible.
